This post was almost titled “allow me to reintroduce myself” because much has changed since I first typed “Skinny Black Girl” into a blog header in 2008, but the part of my brain that thinks in Hov verses has not.
Welcome back.
That’s as much a message for me as it is for you.
Because I was finished with personal blogging. My life as a 36-year-old single woman in Midwest USA stopped yielding interesting writing material years ago. And publicly ruminating over every dream, personal failure, and identity crisis got old. I wanted to let life do its thing without wrestling meaning out of every bit of it.
So what brings me back?
A global pandemic that will find many of us increasingly isolated.
Chronicling life in these trying times on a steady, reliable platform that isn’t driven by disposable content and compulsory reactions feels… necessary.
So I’m here. On this plain ass WordPress blog with no bells or whistles. Just an ongoing story of an ordinary life under extraordinary circumstances; wishing all of us good fortune in the wars to come.
Trying to gather the words during this time too but not yet there, but will be.

No need to rush. None of us are going anywhere, any time soon. Take as much time as you need.
